Sean J. Murphy
Designer, Consultant, Community Advocate and Area Business Owner
Mr. Murphy grew up in a small Florida beach community and moved to Atlanta in the early 90′s. In 1999 he relocated to the downtown area of Smyrna. Mr. Murphy and his family are heavily involved in their community. Mr. Murphy served on the Smyrna Downtown Development Authority and several appointed committees. He is also involved in local advocacy efforts and projects to improve the community and area schools.
Although his college education was focused primarily in Landscape Architecture, Mr. Murphy has a core education in fine arts and design. Prior to enrolling at Purdue University his arts education included three years at the Pinellas County Center for the Arts (Florida). He also spent a year on an exchange program in Edinburgh, Scotland attending the renowned College of Art and Design. Beyond college he has continued to further his artistic development by attending workshops and training studios such as Mike Lynn’s Graphic Workshop.
Mr. Murphy began working in landscaping as a teen first at his mother’s nursery and then in his own landscape business. During college he studied Landscape Architecture and interned in Atlanta for Architects Smallwood Reynolds Stewart & Stewart and Land Plus Associates. Ltd. Through the 90′s Mr. Murphy changed positions and employers several times before starting his own landscape design firm under the name of Amenity Architects in 2001. His first office location was in Smyrna. A few years later he purchased a building in Marietta where his business operated until 2007. In 2007 he sold his business assets to Southeastern Engineering (SEI) and joined them as a Director.
In 2011 Mr. Murphy left SEI to join long time friend and colleague Joel Bowman to become the Director of Design at B+C Studio.
